Truth Can Be Difficult

John 9

Some said, “It is he.” Others said, “No, but he is like him.” He kept saying, “I am the man.”

John 9:9 ESV

When I read this chapter I see the error of men. I see the ridiculousness of not believing a man who said he is healed of his blindness. I see the difficulty of believing in miracles. I see the error of men in authority who thought they knew better.

Because SOAPing is a way to make God’s Word relevant to life today, I tried to see myself in this chapter. I was not pleased with the comparison.

All the errors in this chapter are present in my life. The errors are present in my thoughts and thought patterns. The errors are present in my decision making patterns.

And, as I reflect, I recognize that sometimes, questions are not needed. Sometimes, answers are not needed. Sometimes, I just have to accept that things are the way that they are.

When God moves me, I can be content with the move. When God heals, I do not have to question the healing. When others tell me about their miracles I do not have to wonder if it was true.

When God says it, I should accept it. When God does it, I should not always question. (Thankfully, Jesus does hold space for our questions.)

Do you have doubts and questions and concerns about what God is doing in your life or the lives of others around you? The concerns may be valid, the questions may be ok, but are they necessary? Can you rest in Jesus?

After much ridicule, questions, being cast out, and being sought out by Jesus, this is the response of the man that was no longer blind:

He said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him.

John 9:38

Thank Jesus today with me.

Jesus, thank you for the rest that only you can provide. I want to rest in you. I want to worship you today and all of my days. I want to accept your blessing, accept your miracles, and not doubt these things in the lives of others when it is you doing the work. I love you. Help me to share your love with others today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
