SOAP I Chronicles 20: The Rest of the Story

The Rest of the Story

I Chronicles 20

In the spring of the year, when kings normally go out to war, Joab led the Israelite army in successful attacks against the land of the Ammonites. In the process he laid siege to the city of Rabbah, attacking and destroying it. However, David stayed behind in Jerusalem.

‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭20‬:‭1‬ ‭NLT‬‬

This Chapter doesn’t tell us why David stayed behind or what happened. If we remember it, this is where David stayed behind and saw Bathsheba.  He ended up sinning and Nathan the prophet confronted him.

In the following verse, we see David going out and collecting the plunder, including a crown.   David’s sin didn’t cause him to lose his place as king.  This could be because David repented and returned to God.

This is an important lesson for us.  We will make mistakes.  When we repent, and turn to God and follow Him, we have wholeness and restoration.  God will not leave us.

PRAYER: Thank you Jesus for your constant love, and your mercy that is new every day.  Thank you for convicting our hearts when we sin and forgiving us when we confess.   Thank you for never leaving us.  Amen
