SOAP 1 Chronicles 3: God’s Resume

God’s Resume

1 Chronicles 3

When I first read this chapter, I didn’t feel like I could pull anything from it.  Honestly, I sort of skimmed it and skipped over it.  It’s just a list of names…and sort of boring.  So, I read a bit of background on this book and chapter.

This is more than a list.  It’s proof of God’s faithfulness and how he always delivers on His promises. These names are the proof. The chapter lists the succession of David and his descendants. An important note to add- it’s an unbroken succession line.  The family line of David went on and on for an incredibly long time.  However, this longevity was not a result of his good decisions.  When you read the story of David you know it’s quite the opposite.  The line of David continued not because of his decisions but despite them.

It’s easy to sit and think that our choices determine what happens in our life. And they do, to a point.  The blessings we receive and the legacies that we leave behind aren’t a result of our choices, our good acts, and achievements. The blessings we receive are because of God’s choices and actions.  Just as the long line of David’s family is proof of God’s promises coming true, so are the blessings given to us and our family.

When we walk alongside God, we will experience greater blessings.  But even when we make mistakes, screw up and even walk away from God he is still working behind the scenes blessing us along the way.  I can certainly attest to this. Can you, too? The promises God made to us are unfailing.  He keeps his promises to us in our faithfulness and our unfaithfulness.

When I look back on my life- it is undeniable that God is keeping his promises. Working all things for good (Romans 8:28).  I like to think of it as God’s resume. The stories and testimonies in our life reflect the goodness and glory of Jesus.  All these things can be compiled into a spiritual resume.

Do you find it hard to think of stories and testimonies in our life?  Not sure of what God has done? Take the time to make l list of the times you have smiled even on a bad day, found the good in the bad, a day when things just went right, a time you got an unexpected blessing and etc.  These things are ways God keeps his promises to you!  Write them down.  Be brave and bold to share them!  I would love to see them in the comments below.

Pray with me: Lord, I praise You and Your wisdom.  I thank You for Your word, and all the promises that came along with it. I pray today that my eyes stay open to all the ways You move in my life.  The reason for the blessings in my life is You! I pray today to continue walking in Your truth remaining faithful that no matter what happens in my life You will keep Your promise to me. Your name I pray, amen.
