Day 27

LOVE

“But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfect harmony.”

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭14‬ ‭TLV‬‬

“So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it.”

I like the way The Message version states this. The imagery that is used. His perfect love unifies and holds space for each of us. We will never love like God does but we can let ourselves be transformed into His image and we can allow His love to flow through us.

It is hard for us to love without expectation or an agenda. God loved us while we were still sinners before we were even able to make the decisions that would pull us away from Him. He knew what we would do ( and will do) and still loves us.

My brain can’t wrap itself around that.

I can’t achieve that love on my own in my frail humanity. I can let God use me as His instrument of love.

My prayer: show me how to love like you love me.
