SOAP Hosea 4: A Reflection of Today

A Reflection of Today

Hosea 4

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children. The more they increased, The more they sinned against Me; I will change their glory into shame.

Hosea 4:6-7 NKJV

This chapter was a bit hard because there is no redemption contained in these verses. The redemption does come, just not in these verses.

All I could think of while I was reading this is the state of the world today. We have so much, at least in the United States and other developed countries. Despite having so much we continue to want more. And even when we get more, it seems to not be enough.

We want more knowledge, more money, more skills, more transportation. I know not everyone reading this post wants more all of the time, though I fully admit to wanting more, at times.

I was feeling very sad as I read this chapter, in context of the time that we are living in.

For Israel is stubborn Like a stubborn calf; Now the Lord will let them forage Like a lamb in open country.

Hosea 4:16 NKJV

So many people are stubborn. A lamb in an open country does not seem a punishment. After awhile though, the lamb does not do well. It cannot fend for itself. It needs food, shelter, warmth. A lamb needs to be shepherded.

Jesus is our shepherd: The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Psalms 23:1 NKJV

Jesus is our shelter: Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place,

Psalms 91:9 NKJV

Jesus is our provider: And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:19 NKJV

We can and should strive for our more to be both from and for Jesus. We can and should be a light in this society that is striving for more and more. It is not easy, but Jesus will help us along the way.

PRAYER: Jesus, Thank you for Your help in my everyday. I want You to be a part of every decision. I want You to be my more. Help us, Jesus, to grow together, to uplift each other each day so that we can be the best light in this often dark world. In Jesus’ Name, Amen ❤️
