Smoke and Mirrors

Smoke and Mirrors

1 CORINTHIANS 3

Another Christmas has passed, another start to a year is here. For some, the season of Christmas is about the newest thing, the brightest thing, the most expensive thing. In the end though, they are all just things.

Aren’t we all like this Christmas tree, at times? God sees us at our worst, before the branches are fluffed, before being adorned, before the lights.

"Don’t fool yourself. Don’t think that you can be wise merely by being up-to-date with the times. Be God’s fool—that’s the path to true wisdom. What the world calls smart, God calls stupid. It’s written in Scripture, He exposes the chicanery of the chic. The Master sees through the smoke screens of the know-it-alls."

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭3‬:‭18‬-‭20‬ ‭MSG‬‬

We do not have to dress the best, cook the feasts, or strive for more things. It is all smoke screens and Jesus sees through them. The smoke diminishes and we are left exposed if we do not have Jesus to cover us. Jesus is the light and he wants us to be the mirror for Him, wherever we go. To the person we see as small and to the person we see as great, our mission is the same.

”Jesus, undeterred, went right ahead and gave his charge: “God authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age.”“

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭28‬:‭18‬-‭20‬ ‭MSG‬‬

I challenge you this year, to grab on to this mission greater than you ever have before. Look for people to love in new ways, look for people to instruct, look for people that need Jesus and share Him with them. Be boldened by Jesus within, be fueled by His light, be driven by His compassion.

One way to start is to participate in 21 daysof prayer. Find out how you can here: https://21days.churchofthehighlands.com/

Another way to start is to participate in these daily SOAPs. It does not take much time to read one verse, to reflect, and to pray. Small steps can make a big difference in your journey with Jesus. Get out of the smoke and live in the light of Jesus.

Prayer: Jesus, thank you for this new year, which can be a new start. I am grateful for all that You have shown me and I’m grateful for all that You have planned for me. Help me, Jesus, to hear You louder, to see You more clearly. Help me, Jesus, to reflect Your love, Your compassion, Your grace even more this year. In Jesus Name, Amen.

We’d love to hear about the small changes you are making this year or any suggestions about spiritual growth! Please comment below!
