A Seed Must Die

I CORINTHIANS 15
Seed, legacy, death and transformation.
Paul talks about these concepts in Chapter 15 of 1 Corinthians.
”But someone may ask, “How will the dead be raised? What kind of bodies will they have?”
What a foolish question! When you put a seed into the ground, it doesn’t grow into a plant unless it dies first. And what you put in the ground is not the plant that will grow, but only a bare seed of wheat or whatever you are planting.“
1 Corinthians 15:35-37 NLT

Unless a seed dies, new growth and transformation can’t happen. A tiny seed can grow into a magnificent tree but first, it must crack open and be changed. Nature shows us this every year.

We are in a season of frozen ground where plants die. The new growth will come after.
I have seen this in my life over and over. When I surrender my will and let myself be broken
open, new growth can happen. This is hard. It requires vulnerability, surrender of what I think,
and openness to what God has. I must acknowledge that God knows more than I do. He has
the best plan for me. When my heart is rigid and hard and set toward my way, it can’t crack
open for anything new. It has to be tender and repentant and able to receive.
I find I can be pretty stubborn at times.
God has been very creative in getting my attention. He has spoken to me through His Word,
sermons, people, nature, songs (all kinds, not just worship songs), movies, and more. He will
use anything to get me to listen. I want to hear Him, but I get stuck. I get focused on what I
have now, instead of what could be. Fear of the unknown can creep in.

There is more for each of us. God has more for us here on earth and after we pass, when we will be with Him forever.
”And if our hope in Christ is only for this life, we are more to be pitied than anyone in the world.“
1 Corinthians 15:19 NLT

”For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies
must be transformed into immortal bodies.“
1 Corinthians 15:53 NLT
God is all about transforming us to be more like Him. All things are made new through Him.

Prayer: Jesus, mold me and shape me into your image. Help me be willing to shed the old and embrace the new. I know you have good things ahead for all of us. You will use all the hard places for good. Help me renew my mind with your Word. I want to be closer to you. Transform me into who you want me to be. I surrender my will. Amen

This reminds me of John 12:24-25 NIV
[24] Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. [25] Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
Thanks so much for sharing. I identify with wanting to follow yet resisting. May He give us grace so that the desire to follow Him and His plan for us overcomes every other desire.
So good Amy! Yes Lord, soften me, mold me to be open to the things you have for me. Help me to surrender all to you, knowing your plans are greater. Help me hear your prompts and obey. Take away the pride that keeps me stuck!
Amen! Amy I am so similar! Even when I’m standing wanting to give it all over to God I can sometimes find it hard to do. But you’re right, it’s essential that that part of us has to die before we can live the new life Jesus has for us! This was a great message for me this morning! ❤️
