White As Snow

White As Snow

Hey there Olives!

We start the book of Isaiah today. Isaiah is a prophetic book, and considered one of the books of the major prophets. Major meaning long. That means we're going to be in this book for a minute.

Isaiah means "Yahweh is Salvation".Isaiah is called both a "messianic prophet" and the "evangelical prophet". Isaiah gave prophecy for all future ages, predicting both the first and second coming of Christ. He preached salvation for all ages too, for his time and all those to come. Isaiah communicates God's displeasure with sin, and warns of the consequences of judgement if sin continues. The Prophet's aim is to turn God's people from disobedience, and to lay a foundation for God's faithful remnant of people in hope and promise.

ISAIAH 1

Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord:

through your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;

though they be red like crimson,

they shall be as wool.

Isaiah 1:18 NKJV

The children of Israel have rebelled against God. Isaiah is writing to the nation of Israel and calling them to repentance. He is comparing them to the Sodom and Gomorrah. This chapter is a call to repentance.

I wish I could say that I had never been rebellious towards God but that would not be true. I was angry because things in my life were not going the way I wanted them to. I walked away from God and tried to do things my own way, much like the children of Israel.

The amazing thing about God is He doesn’t walk away from us. He waits for us to come to our senses. At least that’s how it felt for me. I was miserable. God put me in the right place at the right time with the right people. It’s a long story I’ll have to share another time.

God is calling us to come home, to repent. To turn from our own path and trust Him. He promises to wash us, to make us clean. We are forgiven. To be able to come home, to be welcomed back after walking away. It means more to me than I can explain. You weren’t there when He found me, you don’t know what He did for me.  What did God do for you?

Prayer: Jesus, thank you for forgiving me, for washing me white as snow. Help me to always remember what you have done for me and to always trust your plan for my life. I repent from any rebellion in my life and ask you to show me any areas where rebellion may exist. In Jesus name, Amen.

Sometimes, I look around at my life and realize what an actual miracle it is. It makes me more compassionate toward others whose lives are still marked and oppressed in heaviness, hopelessness, darkness, and shame. Remembering what I look like: helps me to be kinder, give grace, but mostly share the hope of Christ! I’m so grateful for His forgiveness and His blood that made me white as snow.
