Stump Standers

ISAIAH 11
Out of the stump of David’s family will grow a shoot— yes, a new Branch bearing fruit from the old root.
Isaiah 11:1 NLT
I am kind of obsessed with trees. They start from a tiny seed, they have deep roots, stand tall against elements, and grow and change. There are so many kinds of trees, each unique and beautiful.

That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.
Psalm 1: 3 NIV
Even a tree that has been cut down to a stump will have new growth if the stump isn’t removed. When two of my granddaughters were younger, we would take walks. One of them liked to stand on the stumps of the trees that had been cut down. They would ask me to take their picture standing there. It became kind of a tradition. I called them stump standers. We kept the tradition with the other set of granddaughters and then our grandson. They are my legacy. The new growth that will step into the promises of God.

Your wife will be like a fruitful grapevine, flourishing within your home. Your children will be like vigorous young olive trees as they sit around your table.
Psalm 128: 3 NIV
In the verse above from Isaiah 11, we are told that David’s family has been cut down to a stump, but new a new shoot will come. Out of that shoot will come Jesus, the Messiah. He will reign forever.

Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for your promises. Thank you for your Word that never fails and Your love that never ends. I can see your Spirit guiding my family and I am so thankful. Thank you for never leaving us, even when we are hard and stubborn. I love you and am excited to see my legacy continue in the generations to come. I know that you have your hand on my family. Thank you.
Amen

I just love this 💗.
It is still amazing that Jesus can create new growth out of old, deadened stumps. I’m so grateful.
Amen! New growth is possible. I have been this over and over again in my life- thank you Jesus. I love how perfectly the tradition you have with your granddaughters fits this chapter! It’s so sweet! ❤️
