Plant the Seed

Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.
John 12:24
There are so many meaningful and memorable verses in this passage. So many I could reflect on. But lately I have been in a season of trying to surrender more. So the passage above spoke to me about surrender.
For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.
Luke 9:24
Jesus uses the object lesson of the seed to represent his purpose. One corn seed in the ground produces a stalk with ears and a multitude of new seeds. We eat seeds of pomegranates and pumpkins. God gives richly of these things for us to enjoy. He is the same with creation, he creates, he multiplies! One seed can produce so many new seeds. One of my favorite quotes is “We cannot force someone to hear a message they are not ready to receive, but we must never underestimate the power of planting a seed.
God wants us to plant those seeds. God always wants to multiply and bless us. But I know for myself I need to participate with him. He cannot work in me if I don’t allow it.

So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple.
Luke 14:33
Jesus laid his life down to give all people new life in Him.
Jesus is a walking, talking, living, breathing prayer. His desire is to do the will of his Father who sent him. It was not easy, and in this passage, as we approach Jesus’s death, we can see the anguish Jesus went through. But still he stayed the course to do his Father’s will. I think with this chapter I look to transform the worries I have and carry in my mind and heart and present them to God as my prayer. He has trusted me with his service and an assignment. I need to “bloom where I am planted” without holding back.
Father, thank you for creation, for the miracle of the seed. Jesus, bread of life, thank you for providing all I need and helping me to use my gifts to multiply. Let the words of my mouth, the meditations of heart be pleasing to you. Help me to let the weight of the world go. Help me to surrender to you God, my redeemer. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
