Leadership to Grow

Leadership to Grow

ISAIAH 9

Those who guide this people mislead them, and those who are guided are lead astray.

Isaiah 9:16 NIV

Isaiah is speaking of God’s chosen people. He is speaking of Israel, in throes of death as a kingdom. Because of their unfaithfulness to God. The entire nation was unfaithful, from top to bottom, because they were following bad leadership.

Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

Proverbs 16:18 ESV

How often have I followed bad leadership, bad role models or bad teachings. Too often to count. Especially when we are younger, we can easily start to follow the wrong “crowd”. They make good promises. New, exciting and different opportunities. But those promises are of earthly treasures. As we examine them, we realize there is no substance to it. It is not God ordained at all.

We must continually know the importance of following the ultimate authority – The Holy Bible. This takes careful thought and I know for myself I need to practice not making quick decisions. I need time to think about whatever it is, pray on it and search if what is being said or asked of me is truly following Jesus’ teachings.

Way too often if I would go with my first thought on something it would be so far off with what I should do. Following leadership is good but we must be sure that our leaders are following the Bible faithfully as well. Be sure to have faith backed friends who you can turn to for advice and guidance when the temptation comes. The Bible makes it clear that I should obey the authorities placed above me. But I cannot rely on the opinions of my leaders and elders only. No matter how good their arguments are. No matter their good intentions, all must be looked at through the lens of my ultimate authority, who is Jesus Christ.

Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.

Romans 13:1 ESV

Prayer: Father, by your grace and wisdom you preserve me. You have given us Holy Scripture that we would have a true, trustworthy and final authority on your will. Open my eyes and ears that I will not be fooled by bad leadership or doctrines. Help me to submit to the good and righteous discipline you show me. Give me a wise spirit to know the difference. Let your will be done and preserve me to your glory. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
